KLM Airlines

The Dutch national airline, Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij N.V., is also known as KLM Airlines. The carrier's headquarters are in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, and it conducts passenger and freight flights to over 13 locations throughout the world. The airline is the world's oldest to fly under its original name and is a member of the Sky Team Partnership. The carrier merged with Air France in May 2004, however both airlines continue to operate under their respective brand names. The airline employed 32,505 people in 2013.

Fleet

KLM's fleet is made up of both Airbus and Boeing planes, with an average age of nine years. KLM currently operates 115 aircraft and is in the midst of a significant fleet renewal programme. The airline's MD-11 fleets have been phased out, and a large-scale fleet renewal is under ongoing. The new Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900 have been sought by Air France-KLM. The first jet was expected to join KLM's fleet in 2015.

Checked-in Luggage:

World Business Class: 2 items, each with a maximum weight of 32 kg. Dimensions must not exceed 158 cm.

Economy Class: 2 items with a maximum weight of 23 kg each. Dimensions must not exceed 158 cm. Additional and overweight luggage are subject to a charge. Baggage restrictions vary depending on the location and flight.

Carry-on luggage:

All passengers in all cabins are permitted to bring one cabin-sized piece of luggage and one authorised personal item (pack, suitcase, laptop bag, compact suitcase, etc.). These things should not weigh more than 18 kg in Business Class and 12 kg in Economy Class, and they should measure 55 x 35 x 25 cm/21.7 x 13.8 x 9.9 in (including bags, wheels and handles).

In-Flight Entertainment

Almost every KLM intercontinental aircraft includes a seat with a personal digital screen where you may choose from over 1000 hours of entertainment (movies, TV, music, games). KLM's selection of over 80 films, including the most recent movies, is refreshed at the start of each month. KLM now only provides Wi-Fi on one of its Boeing 777-300 aircraft as a demonstration effort that may be replicated in the future.

Check-In Information

Use the KLM online check-in site on your computer or tablet, the airport kiosk, or the help desk to check in for your flight. Online check-in is available between 30 hours and 1 hour before your departure time (or from 24 hours to 1 hour before boarding if you are heading to the U.S.). For particular itineraries, you may search for flights online and then send a digital boarding permit to your smartphone through email or SMS. The trip details as well as the barcode, which must be scanned at the airport, will be included in the text message or e-mail.
